Tuesday June 2nd

Good morning Year 5,

Welcome to the 9th week of ISB Virtual School. We hope you had a relexing break and are recharged ready for our final 5 weeks. A couple of changes to your timetable PE will now have two live lessons a week both at 11.55am on a Tuesday and Thursday. This replaces the work on a Monday and catch up on a Wednesday. Music work will still be posted on a Tuesday. If you can, it is important you join the morning meetings that will continue with your class at 8am. It is a great way to ask any questions or talk to your classmates and a good way to start your day. The new blog codes are sent to you on seesaw along with the new zoom passwords for your class.

If you need clarification with absolutely anything please just email your class teacher during the hours of 7:25am- 1:45pm or message directly using Seesaw.

Maths

Tuesdays Brainbasher Mental Starter

Today you need to come up with a solution carrying out each operation  starting with the first number. You only have 30 seconds to solve the problem and will need a piece of paper to work it out on. This style of starter is going to be used over the next week and will get progressively harder to solve. The solution will be given tomorrow.

Core Work

Today we have a continued focus on time, specifically the conversions between 12 and 24 hour clock time. Please watch the video below before beginning your independent task.

ENGLISH

Writing:
LO:  To use direct and indirect speech

Today, we would like you to recognise and use direct and indirect speech.

To do that you need to use Inverted commas (also known as speech marks and quotation marks). These are punctuation marks that show us where direct speech starts and ends.

Click on the link below to watch the video below, from the ‘Grammaropolis’, to find out how we use inverted commas:

GEOGRAPHY

Year 5, this week we are moving away from the Science aspect of Fairgrounds and be heading into Geography- the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. The world is a very different place from country to country and especially from continent to continent, so this week, we are going to explore that.

You are going to plan your very own fairground, however, that will look very different depending on where YOU decide to build it. A fairground in Russia will look very different to one in Australia due to the very different climates of the two countries.

So, this week your task is to independently research about the different continents that make up earth. There is a worksheet to assist you, simply print it out, or type directly onto it, whatever you prefer. Your task is to look at:

  • How many countries are there?
  • What is the population?
  • What is the biggest country?
  • Which country has the highest temperature?
  • Which country has the lowest temperature?
  • Which country is the richest? (GDP per capita)

Remember, when answering the questions, do not just give us the name of the country, be more specific and tell us the exact number or size. Wikipedia will be a very good place to start, simply look at the table on the worksheet and have it completed before next week’s Geography lesson.
