Thursday 2nd April

Hi Boys and Girls,

Well done Year 5 on another great virtual day. Your effort has been brilliant so far. Great to see a number of you during our morning class chats and we know most you had small group lessons with your teacher,  Ms.. Honey or Ms. Rohini yesterday.

Using zoom has been a really effective way of communicating with you but we do ask that you keep your teachers zoom ID code confidential and please keep your first name as your login name as we don't want any unwanted guests joining our zoom chat. If you do change it will mean your teacher cannot identify you and you will be removed from the meeting.

If you need clarification with absolutely anything please just email your class teacher during the hours of 7:25am- 1:45pm.

Brainbasher Solution Wednesday

Thursday Mental starter brainbasher

Solution will be given tomorrow.

Core Work

So far we have worked on your addition, subtraction and multiplication skills. Today our focus is on extending our multiplication by covering 2 digit by 2 digit using partitioning. This can sometimes prove to be difficult if you don't have a good understanding of your times tables. Please take time to watch the video below that will give you an introduction to the independent work you are going to cover (Excuse Mr. Fyfe's terrible mouse writing). Perhaps watch it a few times and write out a few questions to practice before moving onto your independent work.

Independent work

Remember with a topic like this that can prove tricky spend time working through each question thinking about how Mr. Fyfe completed the starting tasks and the first calculation. You need to focus on the multiplication journey you are making. It is better to complete a few questions accurately within your lesson than race through and get a number wrong and not demonstrate your mastery of this particular method.

You need to click on the link below and this will take you to your independent work for the day where you can download a copy or print one out to work on.

Multiplication - Independent Task

From today onwards your answers will available from 2pm onwards via a link on the blog. This will enable you to independently mark your work and then return it to your class teacher to look at.

Topic

Design and make your own space rocket. Use the information below for assistance. Now remember boys and girls, always get permission from your parents before using any tools and resources.

Check with Mum and Dad that first it can be used and whether you should have supervision or an adult helping.

Now get as many recycled materials as you can, once you have them in one place, think how could they be used. Once you have an idea, draw a plan of your rocket, then start constructing your very own rocket.
This may take a few days, and even the weekend with the help of Mum or Dad. Don't rush, take your time and enjoy making your very own Rocket!

Boy and Girls, please remember to continue with your TTRS as well as the usual 20 minutes of reading every day.

Regards,

Year 5 Teachers
